Reading

Busy week. Glad the weekend is just hours away.

Finished another of the Man Booker Prize books (either winners or nominees) at my library. It was a good one, The Line of Beauty by Alan Holinghurst. What made this book unique was at the end someone put a yellow sticky to say, if you enjoyed this read, try Felony by E, Tennant. I really liked that touch, a connection with another reader, and may give that book a try.

The other book that I am finishing up is a non-fiction on the pursuit of science in pre-Victorian times. In this I took a bit of a lesson from the U.S. elections this week. For those that scream for smaller government and think that everything will be corrected by capitalism, in this book they talk briefly of slavery and of child labour. Without government involvement and relying only upon the forces of an open market, does anyone believe that these two moral abominations would have gone away?

I actually have started my Christmas shopping. I was too late last year to get my beautiful wife's gift under the tree, so this week I bought the boys their pajamas and will start looking for my wife's gift.
